## Short Answer

Aston Martin’s core range has four lines: the Vantage sports car, the DB12 grand tourer, the Vanquish V12 flagship and the DBX SUV, alongside limited models such as the Valhalla, Valkyrie, Valour, Valiant and Valen. DB stands for David Brown, Volante means an open-top car, S marks the most capable version, GT a grand-touring one, and AMR the racing-derived brand. Older names such as DB9, DB11, Rapide, Virage and One-77 are no longer in the range.

---

## How is the Aston Martin range organised today?

Around four core lines and a group of limited models. On 24 October 2026 Aston Martin’s global website listed the DBX, Valen, DB12, Vantage, Vanquish, Valhalla, Valkyrie, Valour and Valiant. The Vantage, DB12 and Vanquish are front-engined sports and grand-touring cars built at Gaydon; the DBX is the SUV line, built at St Athan; the others are limited or special models.

---

## What are the Vantage, DB12 and Vanquish?

Three front-engined lines, from sports car to flagship. The Vantage comes as Vantage, Vantage Roadster, Vantage S and Vantage S Roadster, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 of 680PS. The DB12, which Aston Martin calls ‘the world’s first Super Tourer’, comes as DB12, DB12 S, DB12 Volante, DB12 S Volante and a DB12 Volante 60th Anniversary Edition; the DB12 S has 700PS. The Vanquish, now in its third generation since 2024, is the 5.2-litre V12 flagship with 835PS, offered as Vanquish, Vanquish Volante, a Volante 60th Anniversary Edition and a 25th Anniversary Edition of 25 Coupes and 25 Volantes.

---

## What is the DBX range?

Aston Martin’s SUVs. The DBX, the brand’s first SUV, is built at St Athan in Wales, and the range comprises the DBX GT, DBX S and DBX707. All use a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, 707PS in the DBX707 and 727PS in the DBX S and DBX GT, with a 9-speed automatic and active all-wheel drive.

---

## What are the Valhalla, Valkyrie, Valour, Valiant and Valen?

Limited and special models outside the core lines. The Valhalla is Aston Martin’s first series-production mid-engined hypercar and a [plug-in hybrid](https://autotronix.om/otto/hybrid-vs-plug-in-hybrid-vs-electric). The Valkyrie family comprises the Coupe, Spider, track-only AMR Pro and Valkyrie LM. The Valour, 110 cars for 110 years of Aston Martin, and the Valiant pair a 5.2-litre V12 with a 6-speed manual, and the Valen, limited to 150 cars, has the most powerful front-engined V12 in Aston Martin’s history.

---

## Where do the DB names come from?

From David Brown, who bought Aston Martin in 1947. The first car of his era was renamed DB1 from 1950, and the numbers rose to the DB6 of 1965. The initials returned on the DB7 with his blessing; Aston Martin then skipped DB8 because the DB9 was such an advance, and the DB10 was a car built for James Bond. The DB11 replaced the DB9 in 2016, and the DB12 followed in 2023.

---

## What do Vantage, Volante and Roadster mean?

Vantage began in 1951 as an uprated specification under David Brown, and Aston Martin now counts over 70 years of the name; today it is the sports car line. Volante is Aston Martin’s name for an open-top grand tourer, used for 60 years, as on the DB6 Volante of 1966 and today’s DB12 Volante and Vanquish Volante. The open Vantage is called the Vantage Roadster.

---

## What do S, GT and AMR mean?

They mark the character of a version. On the DBX S, Aston Martin says S denotes the peak of physical and mechanical capability, and it describes the model as marking the return of S; the Vantage S carries S badges as a nod to its high-performance lineage. Aston Martin traces its GT designation back over 65 years to the DB4 GT. AMR comes from Aston Martin Racing, formed in 2004, and became a road-car brand in 2017 for race-inspired versions, with AMR Pro as the top tier. A badge does not mean the same specification on every model, so compare the exact car.

## What are Q by Aston Martin, Zagato and Superleggera?

Q by Aston Martin is the company’s bespoke personalisation and commissioning service; recent anniversary editions were created through it. Zagato marks cars bodied with the Milan coachbuilder, from the DB4 GT Zagato of 1960 to the Vantage Zagato of 1986, the V12 Zagato of 2011, the Vanquish Zagato family of 325 cars and the DBS GT Zagato. Superleggera, ‘superlight’, was Touring of Milan’s construction on the DB4, revived as a name for the DBS Superleggera of 2018.

---

## Which Aston Martin names are no longer in the range?

Several well-known ones. The DB9 was replaced by the DB11 in 2016, and the DB11 is no longer listed. The Rapide of 2010, the first four-door Aston Martin since the 1930s, took its name from the Lagonda M45R Rapide. The One-77, the Cygnet city car of 2011–2013 and the Virage of 1989–1995 have also ended; Virage is French for ‘bend’, chosen to sit with Vantage and Volante in the ‘V range’. The V12 Vantage had its final edition in 2022.

---

## Where does Lagonda fit in the range?

In the company name rather than the current showroom. Lagonda joined Aston Martin in 1947 and the group is listed as Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings plc, but no Lagonda model appeared among the families on Aston Martin’s website on 24 October 2026. The name was last used on the four-door Lagonda Rapide of 1961, William Towns’ Lagonda of 1976 and the Lagonda Taraf of 2014–2016.

## Are Aston Martin models the same in Oman and the Gulf?

Otto can’t confirm that from Aston Martin documentation. Aston Martin’s own pages show that specifications can differ by market: the Vantage S is rated at 665PS for China under local regulations instead of 680PS, and the DBX was offered with a Straight Six variant for export markets. In 2018 Aston Martin created a Middle East and North Africa region, with a regional office planned in the U.A.E., but Otto found no official page listing Gulf or Oman specifications. In Oman, the authorised Aston Martin dealer is Al Muhannad Al Hashar. Check the exact specification of a car with the authorised dealer, and have an imported or used car checked in a [pre-purchase inspection](https://autotronix.om/otto/pre-purchase-inspection).

## Common Questions

**Is today’s Vantage the same car as the V8 Vantage?**
No. The V8 Vantage of 2005 was replaced, with the V12 Vantage S, by a new Vantage in 2018, and today’s Vantage has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 of 680PS.

**What is the difference between the DB12 and the DB12 S?**
The DB12 S has 700PS against the DB12’s 680PS, and its recalibrated eight-speed gearbox cuts shift times by 43% to 120 milliseconds.

**Is AMR a separate company?**
No. AMR comes from Aston Martin Racing and is Aston Martin’s own brand for race-inspired versions; its top-tier AMR Pro models are developed by Q by Aston Martin Advanced Operations.

**What does 707 mean in DBX707?**
The Aston Martin pages Otto read don’t explain the name, but the DBX707 is rated at 707PS.
