## Short Answer

In October 2026 McLaren grouped its road cars into three families: supercars (the Artura, 750S and 788HS, each also as a Spider), a grand tourer (the GTS) and a hypercar (the W1). Most McLaren numbers give the power in PS, as on the 750S. LT stands for Longtail and HS for High Sport, both used on sharper versions of a model, and the ‘1’ cars, the F1, P1 and W1, are McLaren’s flagships. Earlier McLarens were sold as the Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series.

---

## How is the McLaren range organised?

On 24 October 2026 McLaren’s global site grouped its current cars into three families. Supercars held the Artura and Artura Spider, the 750S and 750S Spider, and the 788HS and 788HS Spider. Grand Tourers held the GTS, and Hypercars held the W1. A separate Motorsport range covers McLaren’s racing cars. McLaren says its supercars have a carbon fibre monocoque as standard. This is a current list, and McLaren changes it as models arrive and end.

## What are the current McLaren supercars?

The Artura is McLaren’s hybrid supercar: a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 works with an electric motor for 700 PS in total, on the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). The 750S is the combustion-engined supercar, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 of 750 PS; McLaren calls it one of the last pure combustion-engined supercars, and it ends production in 2027. The 788HS, with 788 PS, is the final version of the 750S line and is limited to 200 cars. Otto explains the difference between hybrid and combustion power in [hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric cars explained](https://autotronix.om/otto/hybrid-vs-plug-in-hybrid-vs-electric).

---

## What is the McLaren GTS?

The GTS is McLaren’s grand tourer, built for long journeys as well as performance. It replaced the McLaren GT at the end of 2023, with 635 PS from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, and McLaren lists 420 litres of luggage space behind the cabin plus 150 litres at the front.

---

## What are McLaren’s ‘1’ cars?

McLaren calls the F1, the P1 and the W1 its ‘1’ cars, the flagships of its ultimate series. The F1 of 1992 was the first McLaren production model, the P1 was McLaren’s first hybrid hypercar, and the W1 of 2024 has 1,275 PS from a hybrid V8, the most of any McLaren. Only 399 examples of the W1 are being built.

---

## What were the Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series?

They were the three tiers McLaren used from 2015. The Sports Series, which began with the 570S, included the most attainable McLarens; it ended in December 2020 with the 620R. The Super Series sat above it, with the 720S as its second generation from 2017, and the Ultimate Series began with the P1. McLaren’s current site uses Supercars, Grand Tourers and Hypercars instead.

## What do the numbers in McLaren names mean?

From the 650S onwards, McLaren has used the number to give the car’s power output in PS: the 570S has 570 PS, the 675LT 675 PS, the 720S 720 PS and the 750S up to 750 PS. On the 650S, the S stood for Sport. The first car of McLaren Automotive worked differently: in MP4-12C, MP4 stands for McLaren Project 4 and 12 refers to McLaren’s internal Vehicle Performance Index. Otto could not find an official explanation for every letter, such as the C in 540C or the W in W1, so he does not guess.

---

## What do LT and HS mean?

LT stands for Longtail, after the F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ race car of 1997. McLaren uses it for limited versions with more power, less weight, sharper aerodynamics and track-focused handling: the 675LT of 2015, the 600LT and the 765LT, each as a coupé and a Spider. HS stands for High Sport, a badge McLaren reserves for its most special series-production cars; the 788HS is only the third to wear it, after the MP4-12C HS and the MSO HS.

---

## What is MSO?

MSO stands for McLaren Special Operations, McLaren’s personalisation department. It offers bespoke paint, finishes and one-off commissions, and every 788HS is made unique through MSO.

## Are McLaren models different in Oman and the Gulf?

Otto has not found an official McLaren source that describes Gulf or Oman specifications. The fuel consumption and emissions figures on McLaren’s global model pages are EU WLTP values. McLaren has tailored a model to a region before, the 625C of 2014 for Asia, but Otto found no Gulf version. McLaren has tested its cars in extreme heat, including the 12C in Bahrain at 50 °C, and its retailer finder lists its authorised retailers, including several in the GCC. In Oman, the authorised McLaren retailer is Mohsin Haider Darwish (McLaren Muscat, Azaiba). So check the exact specification of any car with an authorised McLaren retailer before you buy. For a used McLaren, a specialist inspection such as the one Otto describes in [what a vehicle health report is](https://autotronix.om/otto/vehicle-health-report) helps confirm its condition.

---

## What is coming next from McLaren?

In August 2026 McLaren showed the McL 6GT concept, inspired by Bruce McLaren’s M6GT, with a V8, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox; a production version is planned for 2028. In September 2026 McLaren also announced plans for a performance SUV.

---
