## Short Answer

On 25 October 2026 Nissan’s Oman website listed 11 models, led by the Patrol in standard, PRO-4X and NISMO forms, with the Pathfinder, X-Terra, X-Trail, Kicks and Magnite SUVs, the Altima saloon, the Nissan Z sports car and the Urvan van. Patrol generations are best known by their codes, from the 4W60 of 1951 to today’s Y63. The GT-R and the Z are model families with their own codes, NISMO is Nissan’s performance brand, and production of the R35 GT-R ended in 2025.

## How is Nissan’s range in Oman organised?

On 25 October 2026 Nissan’s Oman website listed 11 models, grouped as SUVs and crossovers, passenger cars, sports vehicles and commercial vehicles: the Altima, the Patrol, the Patrol NISMO, the Patrol PRO-4X, the Pathfinder, the X-Terra, the X-Trail, the Kicks, the Magnite, the Nissan Z and the Urvan. Two more were announced for registrations of interest: the Tekton, a compact SUV with a 1.3-litre turbo engine of 153 hp and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the Navara Pro pickup. These are the models as of October 2026, and ranges change.

## Which Patrol generations came before the Y62?

Nissan’s own releases number the generations differently, so Otto uses their codes. The first was the 4W60 of December 1951, sold only in Japan with a 3.7-litre straight six; the Patrol name arrived with the 4W65 update in 1958. The 60 series followed, listed by Nissan in October 1960 and sold in Australia as the G60, and it ran for about 20 years. The 160 of June 1980 brought a five-door, seven-seat body with air-conditioning. The Y60 of November 1987 introduced coil springs all round and power steering, and the Y61 followed in October 1997; in the Middle East Nissan revived the Y61 in 2016 as the Patrol Super Safari, sold only in the region. In Japan the Patrol was sold as the Safari, and Nissan Australia called the 160, Y60 and Y61 the MQ, GQ and GU.

## How do the Y62 and the Y63 Patrol differ?

The Y62 was launched in Abu Dhabi on 13 February 2010 with a 5.6-litre V8, a seven-speed automatic, independent suspension on all four wheels and Hydraulic Body Motion Control to reduce body roll. Its successor, which Nissan’s Oman website calls the Y63, made its global debut in Abu Dhabi on 4 September 2024. It replaced the V8 with V6 engines, a 3.5-litre twin-turbo with 425 hp and 700 Nm or a 3.8-litre with 316 hp, both with a nine-speed automatic, and Nissan says its twin-turbo has 7% more power and 25% more torque than the V8 it replaced. Engine details are in Otto’s guide to Nissan engines and drivetrains.

## Which Patrol versions are sold in Oman?

On 25 October 2026 the Patrol came in two engine families. The 3.8-litre V6 versions were the XE, SE T2, SE Titanium and SE Platinum City; the 3.5-litre twin-turbo versions were the Platinum, the PRO-4X and the NISMO. The PRO-4X is the off-road Patrol, with all-terrain tyres, front skid plates, underbody protection and a camera view through the bonnet. The Patrol NISMO, introduced in June 2025, raises the twin-turbo V6 to 495 hp. Nissan’s Oman website also lists a Patrol 75th Anniversary Edition, offered only in the Middle East.

## How do the GT-R generations and codes work?

The GT-R began as the top Skyline. The Skyline 2000GT-R of February 1969 was the PGC10 saloon, later joined by the KPGC10 coupé, and the KPGC110 of 1973 lasted only a few months, with 197 built. After 16 years the name returned on the R32, the eighth-generation Skyline, as the BNR32 of 1989, followed by the BCNR33 of 1995 and the BNR34 of 1999. In 2007 the GT-R became a model of its own, the R35, sold as the ‘NISSAN GT-R’ without the Skyline name. Its production ended on 26 August 2025, and Nissan has said its goal is for the GT-R name to return.

## What do the Z names and codes mean?

In Japan the Z is the Fairlady Z; abroad the first one, the S30 of 1969, was sold as the Datsun 240Z. For most generations the number in the name matches the engine size: the 240Z had a 2.4-litre straight six, the S130 280Z of 1978 a 2.8-litre, the Z31 and Z32 300ZX of 1983 and 1989 a 3.0-litre V6, the Z33 350Z of 2002 a 3.5-litre V6 and the Z34 370Z of 2009 a 3.7-litre V6. The seventh generation of 2021 dropped the number and is simply the Nissan Z. Z432, a special S30, stood for four valves, three carburettors and two camshafts. Nissan’s heritage records also give each car a type code, such as HLS30 or GCZ32.

## What is NISMO?

NISMO is Nissan’s performance brand. It was established on 17 September 1984 as Nissan Motorsport International, originally in Omori, Tokyo, and Nissan calls it its in-house tuning, motorsport and performance division, with a ‘track to road’ approach. Since 2022 it has been part of Nissan Motorsports & Customization (NMC), together with Nissan’s racing activities and AUTECH JAPAN. NISMO road cars include the Patrol NISMO, the GT-R NISMO, the Fairlady Z NISMO and the Ariya NISMO, and in December 2025 Nissan said it aims to grow the range from five to ten models worldwide.

## Which other SUVs does Nissan sell in Oman?

Below the Patrol, the Pathfinder has a 3.5-litre V6 with 271 hp, a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, and the X-Terra a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 165 hp, a seven-speed automatic and two- or four-wheel drive. The X-Trail in Oman has a 2.5-litre engine with 181 hp and an Xtronic CVT, with front- or all-wheel drive; it is now in its fourth generation, the T33, after the T30 of 2000, the T31 and the T32, which North America knew as the Rogue. The Kicks has a 2.0-litre engine with up to 142 hp, and the Magnite, the smallest, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo with 100 PS and a CVT, in S, SV and SL grades. Otto explains [how a CVT works](https://autotronix.om/otto/cvt-transmission-explained).

---

## Which other Nissans are sold in Oman?

The Altima saloon has a 2.5-litre engine with 188 hp, a CVT and front-wheel drive; Nissan’s US plant began building it in 1992, when Nissan listed it alongside the Bluebird. The Nissan Z is the sports car, with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, rear-wheel drive and a choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic. The Urvan is the NV350 Urvan, sold as a microbus or a van.

## Where do Nissan’s other names come from?

Datsun came from the DAT car of 1914, named after its investors’ initials, and the Datson of 1930, which became Datsun in 1932 because ‘son’ sounded like the Japanese word for loss. Nissan itself comes from Nihon Sangyo, ‘Japanese industry’. The Sunny’s name was chosen from about 8.5 million public entries, and the PAO was named after a Mongolian portable dwelling. Some models carry different names by market: the Micra is the March in Japan, the X-Trail was the Rogue in North America, and the Patrol is the Safari in Japan. In export codes such as SPL212, the L stood for left-hand drive.

---

## What are Infiniti, Datsun and Venucia?

They are brands of the Nissan group rather than model families. Infiniti’s first model, the Q45, appeared in November 1989. Datsun was Nissan’s own export name until 1981, came back in 2013 as a low-cost brand for emerging markets, and ended when production stopped in India in April 2022. Venucia is a brand that Nissan’s Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Nissan, announced in September 2010.

---

## Which Nissan models have ended?

The R35 GT-R, the last GT-R so far, ended production on 26 August 2025, and the Skyline GT-R before it ended with the R34 in August 2002. The 370Z gave way in 2021 to the Nissan Z, and the Y62 Patrol was replaced by the all-new Patrol in 2024. Datsun-badged cars ended in April 2022. Models such as the Sunny and the Maxima were not among the 11 models on Nissan’s Oman website in October 2026; check with the dealer before assuming any model is available.

---

## Are Nissan models different in Oman and the Gulf?

Some are made for the region. The Patrol Super Safari of 2016 was sold only in the Middle East, Nissan describes the Patrol NISMO of 2015 as the first race-inspired Patrol built for the Middle East, the 2022 Patrol 70th Anniversary was a GCC exclusive, and the Patrol 75th Anniversary Edition is offered only in the Middle East. The 2024 Patrol was also the first Nissan in the region with NissanConnect 2.0 with Google built-in, starting in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Equipment varies by market: the X-Trail in Oman has a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a CVT, while the T33 X-Trail is offered elsewhere with e-POWER and e-4ORCE. Nissan’s Oman website names Al Hashar Automotive as the authorised official distributor of Nissan vehicles in Oman, appointed in July 2024, with facilities in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, Sur and Ibri. Otto found no official list of GCC-specific specifications, so check the exact specification, equipment and availability of a car with the authorised Nissan dealer.
