## Short Answer

Toyota's range runs from small cars and saloons such as the Yaris, Corolla, Camry and Crown to SUVs, pickups and the Land Cruiser, with hybrid versions of many models and GR performance cars. The Land Cruiser is organised by series numbers: each generation has its own number, from the 40 of 1960 to the 300 of 2021, and Toyota now groups it into the 300 Series flagship, the heavy-duty 70 Series, the light-duty 250 Series, sold in Oman as the Land Cruiser Prado, and the new FJ.

## How is Toyota's range in Oman organised?

On 25 October 2026 the Toyota Oman website listed passenger cars (the Yaris Sedan, Corolla, Camry and Crown), SUVs from the Raize, Urban Cruiser, Corolla Cross and RAV4 to the Highlander, Fortuner, Prado, Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser FJ, and commercial vehicles including the Hilux, Land Cruiser Pick-up, Hiace and Coaster. Hybrid versions were listed for the Camry, RAV4, Corolla Cross and Highlander, plus a Land Cruiser Hybrid, and the GR86, Supra, GR Yaris and GR Corolla made up the sports models.

## What do the Land Cruiser series numbers mean?

Each Land Cruiser generation is known by a series number rather than a year. The line began as the Toyota Jeep BJ in 1951 and was renamed Land Cruiser in June 1954, because Jeep was another company's trademark. Toyota dates the main series as the 20 (1955), 40 (1960), 50 (1967), 60 (1980), 70 (1984), 80 (1989), 90 (1996), 100 (1998), 120 (2002), 200 (2007), 150 (2009) and 300 (2021). They belong to different lines: today Toyota describes the 300 Series as the flagship station wagon, the 70 Series as the heavy-duty model and the 250 Series as the light-duty model, and in 2025 it added the FJ.

## What were the 40, 55 and 60 Series?

The 40 Series, from August 1960, was the short, medium and long-wheelbase workhorse that stayed on sale for 24 years. The early codes often show the engine: the first BJ had the Type B engine, and the FJ55 of August 1967, the first station-wagon body, had the 3.9-litre Type F six. The 60 Series followed in August 1980 with restyled bodywork, a 4.2-litre petrol engine (2F) and a new 3.4-litre diesel, and later gained a 4.0-litre diesel (2H), turbocharged and fuel-injected engines and an automatic gearbox.

## What are the 80, 100 and 200 Series?

These are the large station wagons that came before today's 300. The 80 Series of October 1989 brought coil springs in place of leaf springs and full-time 4WD with a centre differential on higher grades. The 100 Series of January 1998 added the 4.7-litre 2UZ-FE V8 and independent front suspension. The 200 Series of September 2007 kept a 4.7-litre V8, added crawl control and a Torsen centre differential, and stayed in production until spring 2021. The 200 was also the basis of a Lexus, the third-generation LX; Lexus is Toyota's luxury brand and has its own Otto lineup article.

## What is the Land Cruiser 300?

The 300 Series is the current flagship, revealed on 10 June 2021 in a launch centred on the Middle East. It keeps a separate frame on Toyota's GA-F platform, weighs 200 kg less than the 200, and in its main versions uses a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol (V35A-FTS) or a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel (F33A-FTV) with a 10-speed automatic. The GR SPORT version, developed with feedback from Dakar Rally drivers, adds an electronically controlled stabiliser system. In October 2026 Toyota Oman listed it as LC 3.5L, GR Sport and LC 4.0L, with the 3.5-litre rated at 409 HP, and a separate Land Cruiser Hybrid.

---

## Where does the 70 Series fit?

The 70 Series is the working Land Cruiser. It replaced the 40 in November 1984 and came in five wheelbases from 2,310 to 3,180 mm, as vans, pickups and wagons. Instead of being replaced it has been updated: in 2007 it was reshaped for a V8 turbo-diesel and gained the four-door 76, it returned to Japan in 2014 with a 4.0-litre V6, and in 2023 Toyota announced its return there with a 2.8-litre diesel. In Australia the 1VD-FTV V8 diesel used since 2007 is being replaced by the 2.8-litre 1GD. Toyota Oman lists a Land Cruiser Pick-up with a 4.0-litre V6 and five-speed manual as a single cab, double cab, wagon and hard-top personnel carrier; check with the dealer which series code a particular vehicle carries.

## What is the difference between the Prado and the 250?

They are names for the same light-duty line at different times. It began in October 1985 as the Land Cruiser Light 70 wagon, took the Prado name in April 1990, and continued as the Prado 90 (May 1996), 120 (October 2002) and 150 (September 2009). Toyota's current light-duty model is the 250 Series, launched in Japan on 18 April 2024: it shares the 300's GA-F platform, is the first Land Cruiser with electric power steering, and was planned with a 2.4-litre turbo petrol for the Middle East. Toyota Oman sells its current model as the Land Cruiser Prado, with a 2.4-litre turbo petrol of 267 HP, an 8-speed automatic and full-time 4WD, and also lists a 2.8-litre diesel.

---

## What is the Land Cruiser FJ?

The FJ is the newest and smallest member of the family. Toyota unveiled it on 21 October 2025 on a platform refined in its IMV pickup series, with a 2.7-litre petrol engine (2TR-FE), part-time 4WD and a six-speed automatic, and a wheelbase 270 mm shorter than the 250's. It went on sale in Japan on 14 May 2026, and Toyota Oman lists it alongside the Land Cruiser and Prado.

---

## What do GR, GR SPORT and GRMN mean?

GR is short for GAZOO Racing, Toyota's motorsport and performance car arm. When Toyota launched the GR series in Japan in 2017 it set three levels: GRMN as the limited top model, GR as the mass-produced performance car, and GR SPORT as the entry level with a sportier look and feel, plus GR PARTS for owners. The GR road cars include the GR Supra (2019, developed with BMW), the GR Yaris (2020), the GR86 and the GR Corolla, and in January 2026 Toyota said the team would return to the name GAZOO Racing. In Oman the GR86, Supra, GR Yaris and GR Corolla are listed, and the Land Cruiser has a GR Sport version.

## How do Toyota's names and codes work?

Many names have simple meanings: Camry comes from the Japanese "kanmuri", crown; Crown has its English meaning; Celica is Spanish for celestial; Hilux combines high and luxury; and Publica joined public and car. Codes are more technical and Toyota uses them per generation or version: the Supra generations are the A40 of 1978 to the A90 of 2019, the first Hilux was the RN10, the first Celica GT-Four the ST165, and AE86 was given only to Corolla coupes with the 4A-GEU engine. Otto found no official key to every letter, so the code on your registration documents is the reliable reference.

---

## Where do the Crown, Corolla, Camry and Hilux stand today?

Each is a long-running family. The Crown, first sold in 1955, became four models in 2022: Crossover, Sport, Sedan and Estate. The Corolla reached its 60th year in 2026 after 12 generations, and the Corolla Cross SUV extends the name. The Camry has carried its name since March 1982, when it became Toyota's first car with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. The Hilux pickup dates from 1968, and a new Hilux went on sale in Japan in May 2026; Toyota Oman lists it in 2.7, 2.8 and 4.0 versions, and the Fortuner SUV with 2.7-litre and 4.0-litre V6 engines.

## Are Toyota models different in Oman and the Gulf?

Yes, in some respects. Toyota set GCC specification vehicles for Oman in January 1986, with specifications set for each country after that, and some models are tailored to the region: the Land Cruiser 300 was revealed in a Middle East-centred launch, and the 250 was planned with a specific 2.4-litre petrol engine for the Middle East. Toyota's own history names Saud Bahwan Automotive LLC (SBA), which grew out of the Suhail & Saud Bahwan business that signed with Toyota in April 1975, as its distributor in Oman, and the Toyota Oman website describes a partnership of 50 years. Otto found no official list of GCC-specific specifications, so check the exact specification, equipment and availability of a car with the authorised Toyota dealer.
