Otto Explains — Model Lineups

Bentley Model Lineup Explained

Short Answer

Bentley’s range has four model lines: the Continental GT coupé and convertible, the Flying Spur sedan, the Bentayga SUV and the all-electric Torcal SUV. Within a line, Azure leans towards comfort, S towards sporty styling and handling, Speed towards performance, and Mulliner is the most luxurious model; EWB means a longer-wheelbase Bentayga. Older names such as Mulsanne, Arnage and Azure convertible are no longer in production.

How is the Bentley range organised today?

Around four model lines. The Continental GT is a two-door grand tourer, also sold as the Continental GT Convertible; the Flying Spur is a four-door sedan; the Bentayga is an SUV; and the Torcal, unveiled on 23 September 2026, is a fully electric SUV and Bentley’s fourth model line. On 24 October 2026 Bentley’s global website listed the Torcal, Bentayga, Flying Spur, Supersports, Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible and Mulliner.

What do Azure, S, Speed and Mulliner mean on a Bentley?

They are models within a line, not separate cars. The current Continental GT and Flying Spur each come in five: the core car, Azure (aimed at comfort and wellbeing), S (sportier styling and chassis), Speed (the performance model) and Mulliner (the most luxurious). The Bentayga range includes the Bentayga, Azure and Speed. The same badge can mean a different powertrain in different lines and years, so compare the exact specification.

What does EWB mean?

Extended Wheelbase. The Bentayga EWB has a wheelbase, and a rear cabin, 180 mm longer than the standard Bentayga, and it is offered as the Bentayga EWB, EWB Azure and EWB Mulliner.

How are Continental GT generations counted?

By generation, not by a number in the name. The first Continental GT was built from 2003 to 2011, the second arrived in 2011 and added a 4.0-litre V8 to the W12, and a third followed. The fourth generation, revealed in June 2024, introduced the Ultra Performance Hybrid. The convertible version was first revealed at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.

How did the Flying Spur name develop?

It began as a coachbuilt body. In 1957 H.J. Mulliner built a four-door Continental called the Continental Flying Spur, and Bentley revived the name in 2005 for its four-door Continental Flying Spur. From the second generation the Continental prefix was dropped, the third generation came in 2019, and the fourth was announced on 2 June 2026, with first deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Where does the Continental name come from?

From the R-Type Continental of 1952, the first Bentley to carry it. The name returned on the 1984 Continental convertible, which had been the Corniche since 1971, on the Continental R coupé of 1991, and on the Continental GT of 2003, which still uses it.

What are Mulliner, Supersports and the coachbuilt Bentleys?

Mulliner is Bentley’s in-house bespoke and coachbuilding division, part of the company since 1959, with three portfolios: Coachbuilt, Collections and Classic. Its coachbuilt cars are very small series with their own names, such as the Bacalar (12 cars, 2020) and the Batur (18 cars), and it has built continuation series of the Blower and Speed Six. The Supersports is different again: a limited edition of 500 numbered Continental GTs with a non-hybrid V8 and rear-wheel drive.

What did older names like Mark, R, S and T mean?

They named the post-war saloon series in order: the Mark V and Mark VI, then the R Type of 1952, the S of 1955 (later called S1), the S2 of 1959, the S3 of 1962 and the T Series of 1965. Speed also has a long history: Bentley sold a 3 Litre Speed Model from 1924 and the Speed Six from 1928.

Which Bentley models have been discontinued?

Several well-known names. The Mulsanne flagship was built from 2010 to 2020, after the Arnage, which ended with a Final Series of 150 cars. The Brooklands saloon of 1993 replaced an earlier Mulsanne series, and a Brooklands coupé appeared in 2007. The Azure convertible ran in its first form until 2003 before a second generation, the Continental R coupé was built from 1991 to 2003, and the Continental convertible was sold until 1995. The Mulsanne is the long straight and Arnage a corner at Le Mans; Brooklands is a racetrack in England.

Are Bentley models the same in Oman and the Gulf?

Otto can’t confirm that from Bentley documentation. In Oman, Bentley Muscat’s page on Bentley’s official website describes it as an official Bentley Motors dealership offering new and pre-owned Bentleys, accessories and manufacturer-approved services, with sales, service and paint and body facilities in Al Khuwair, Muscat. The page doesn’t list Gulf versions or specifications, and Otto found no official source that does. Bentley itself states that features vary by market and can change at short notice. Check the exact specification of a car with the authorised dealer, and have an imported or used car checked in a pre-purchase inspection.

Common Questions

  • Is Mulliner a separate brand? No. Mulliner is Bentley’s in-house bespoke and coachbuilding division, part of Bentley since 1959, and Mulliner is also the name of the most luxurious model in the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga EWB ranges.
  • What is the difference between a Bentayga and a Bentayga EWB? The EWB has a wheelbase 180 mm longer, which goes into extra rear cabin space.
  • Is the Torcal an electric Bentayga? No. The Torcal is a separate model line, a low, fully electric SUV that Bentley calls its fourth model line.
  • Is the Continental GT Convertible a separate model? It is the open version of the Continental GT, listed separately on Bentley’s website. The first convertible Continental GT was revealed in 2006.
