Chevrolet Model Lineup Explained

Short Answer

Chevrolet’s range is built around SUVs, pickups and the Corvette. In Oman, Chevrolet’s website lists the Groove, Captiva, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban, an electric and a plug-in hybrid Captiva and the Spark EUV, the Silverado LD and HD pickups and four Corvettes. The Corvette is numbered by generation from C1, in 1953, to today’s mid-engined C8, and badges such as LT, Z71, SS and Z06 mark trims and performance versions.

How is Chevrolet’s current range organised?

On 25 October 2026 Chevrolet’s Oman website grouped its range into SUVs (the Groove, Captiva, Captiva PHEV, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban), electric models (the Captiva EV and Spark EUV), trucks (the Silverado LD and Silverado HD) and performance cars (the Corvette Stingray, E-Ray, Z06 and ZR1). Chevrolet’s American website listed a different mix the same day: the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban; the Colorado, Silverado, Silverado HD and Silverado EV pickups; the Equinox EV and Blazer EV; BrightDrop electric vans; and six Corvettes.

What are Chevrolet’s SUVs in Oman?

From the smallest up: the Groove, a five-seater with a 1.5-litre turbo engine, sold as LT and RS; the Captiva, a seven-seater with a 1.5-litre turbo engine, sold as LS, LT, Premier and a Premier Midnight Edition; the Traverse, with a 328-hp 2.5-litre turbo engine and seven or eight seats, sold as LT and Z71; and the full-size Tahoe and Suburban, which seat up to nine and have V8 engines. Chevrolet calls the Suburban its original SUV; the Tahoe joined it in 1995.

How do the Tahoe and Suburban versions differ?

By trim and engine. In Oman the Tahoe comes as LS, LT, RST, Z71 and Premier, and the Suburban as LS, LT and Premier; Chevrolet’s American Tahoe adds a High Country. Most versions use the 5.3-litre V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management, giving 355 hp in the Oman Tahoe, while the RST has the 6.2-litre V8 with 420 hp, which is optional on the Z71 and Premier. Z71 is Chevrolet’s off-road badge: the Tahoe Z71 adds an off-road package and an Autotrac two-speed transfer case.

What do Silverado, LD and HD mean?

Silverado began in 1975 as the top trim of Chevrolet’s C/K pickups, in which C meant two-wheel drive and K four-wheel drive, and it later became the name of every Chevrolet full-size pickup. Chevrolet’s Oman site lists a light-duty (LD) and a heavy-duty (HD) Silverado, with maximum trailering of 6,033 kg and 8,392 kg. The Silverado LD is sold in Oman as LT, RST, Trail Boss and LTZ, while the American 2027 Silverado 1500 comes as WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT/Z71, Trail Boss, High Country and ZR2, with new 5.7- and 6.6-litre V8 engines from late 2026.

Which Chevrolets are electric or hybrid?

In Oman, Chevrolet’s website lists the Captiva PHEV, a plug-in hybrid that pairs a 1.5-litre engine with a 20.5 kWh battery, and two fully electric SUVs, the Captiva EV and the Spark EUV. The American range includes the Equinox EV, Blazer EV and Silverado EV, and the Bolt, which Chevrolet introduced in 2017 and builds again in 2026. The Corvette E-Ray adds an electric motor at the front axle. Chevrolet’s two Oman pages give different ranges for the electric Captiva and Spark, so check the figure for a specific car with the dealer. Otto explains the differences in hybrid vs plug-in hybrid vs electric.

How are Corvette generations numbered from C1 to C8?

Each Corvette generation has a code made of a C and a number: General Motors refers to the 1963 Sting Ray as the second-generation Corvette, the C2, and its president writes of the C7, the C8 and a future C9. The eight generations are: C1, from 1953 to 1962; C2, the Sting Ray, from 1963 to 1967; C3, from 1968 to 1982; C4, from 1984 to 1996; C5, from 1997 to 2004, with the transmission moved to the rear and the LS1 V8; C6, from 2005 to 2013, the first with 400 hp as standard; C7, from 2014 to 2019, which brought back the Stingray name; and C8, from 2020, the first with its engine in the middle of the car, which Chevrolet’s history page runs to 2027.

What do Stingray, Grand Sport, Z06, E-Ray, ZR1 and the X mean?

They are the model names within the C8 generation. Stingray is the base car, which from the 2027 model year has a 6.7-litre V8. Grand Sport, a name first carried by five C2 race cars in the early 1960s, returns for 2027, and the Z06, a name that began as a racing package in 1963, is the track model with the 670-hp LT6 engine. E-Ray was the first Corvette with electrified all-wheel drive, ZR1 is the 1,064-hp twin-turbo flagship, and an X now marks electrified all-wheel drive, as on the Grand Sport X and ZR1X. The Stingray’s trims are 1LT, 2LT and 3LT, and Chevrolet’s Oman site sells the Z06, E-Ray and ZR1 as 3LZ.

Is the Corvette a separate brand?

No, it is a Chevrolet model family. Asked in September 2024 whether the Corvette would spin off into a brand of its own, General Motors President Mark Reuss answered “Never”, saying that the core of Chevrolet is offering people more than they thought for the money: “That’s what Corvette is.” Chevrolet says the Corvette has been its halo since 1953, and in October 2025 Reuss described 72 years and eight generations of the car and a future “to C9 and beyond”.

What do SS, Z28, ZL1 and Chevrolet’s other badges mean?

SS stands for Super Sport, a name Chevrolet introduced on the Impala in 1961 and later used on models such as the Impala SS 427. On the Camaro, RS marked early cars with hidden headlights, Z28 and IROC-Z were performance versions, COPO cars were special-order drag-racing models from 1969, and ZL1 marked the first supercharged Camaro in 2012. On today’s trucks and SUVs, Z71 marks off-road versions, and the Silverado Trail Boss and ZR2 add a 2-inch factory lift for off-road use.

Which Chevrolet models have been discontinued?

Several famous names have ended. The Corvair, Chevrolet’s air-cooled rear-engined car, ended in 1969; the Chevette small car after the 1987 model year; and the Caprice in North America after 1996, although a Holden-built Caprice continued to be sold in the Gulf. The last Impala was built on 27 February 2020, after 62 years. The Camaro’s sixth generation, built from 2016, was retired after the 2024 model year, and the Malibu, Chevrolet’s last saloon in America, ended in November 2024.

Are Chevrolet models different in Oman and the Gulf?

Yes, and Chevrolet’s own websites show it. On 25 October 2026 the Oman site listed models that the American site did not, such as the Groove, Captiva and Spark EUV, while the American range included the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer and Colorado, which the Oman site did not list. The Oman site offered the Tahoe without the American High Country trim and listed the Corvette Stingray, E-Ray, Z06 and ZR1, while the American site listed the Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X. Chevrolet’s Oman Tahoe page says an American-specification car is pictured and that options and availability may vary by market, and Chevrolet Complete Care in Oman includes four-year regional roadside assistance. Chevrolet’s Oman website names OTE as its dealer, with locations in Muscat, Seeb and Barka. Otto found no official list of GCC-specific specifications, so check the exact specification, equipment and availability of a car with the authorised Chevrolet dealer. For a used or imported Chevrolet, a pre-purchase inspection confirms what you are buying, Otto explains the difference between a dealership and an independent specialist, and AutoTronix PERFORMANCE offers inspection-led support for the Corvette.
