Otto Explains — Model Lineups

Ford Model Lineup Explained

Short Answer

Ford’s range in Oman has three groups: cars (the Mustang and Taurus), SUVs (Territory, Bronco, Explorer, Everest and Expedition, plus the electric Mustang Mach-E) and trucks and vans (Ranger, F-150, Super Duty and Transit). Raptor marks Ford’s off-road performance models, Shelby is Carroll Shelby’s name used on high-performance Mustangs, and Ford Performance, the division behind them, took back the name Ford Racing in 2025. Some Oman versions differ from other markets, so the exact specification is best checked with the authorised distributor.

How is Ford’s range in Oman organised?

On 25 October 2026 Ford’s Oman website grouped its models as cars, the Mustang and Taurus; SUVs, the Territory, Bronco, Bronco Raptor, Explorer, Everest and Expedition; an electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E; and trucks and vans, the Ranger, Ranger Raptor, F-150 with its Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R versions, the Transit range and the Super Duty. A separate performance menu lists only Raptors. Ford Middle East runs the same kind of website for nine other markets in the region, and its websites also cover Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand.

What are today’s Mustang models?

The Mustang is in its seventh generation. In Oman it is sold only with the fourth-generation 5.0-litre Coyote V8, as the GT 5.0, GT Premium 5.0, GT Premium 5.0 Convertible and Dark Horse, with up to 500 hp. Dark Horse, introduced with this generation, is the first new Mustang performance name since the Bullitt of 2001. In the United States the range also includes a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder, the supercharged Dark Horse SC and the 815-hp Mustang GTD. The Mustang Mach-E, launched in 2019, is a separate, all-electric SUV that carries the Mustang name.

Where do Shelby, Ford Performance and Ford Racing fit?

Shelby is not a Ford division. Carroll Shelby founded Shelby American in 1962, built the first Shelby GT350 Mustangs in 1965 at Ford’s request, and Ford took over production of the Shelby cars in 1968. Since 2007 Ford has also sold Shelby-badged Mustangs of its own, such as the 760-hp Shelby GT500, while Shelby American, now in Las Vegas, builds its own conversions of Mustangs and Ford trucks; the Shelby, GT350 and GT500 names are trademarks of Carroll Shelby and Carroll Shelby Licensing. Ford Performance was Ford’s in-house performance division, formed in 2014 from Ford Racing, SVT and Team RS, and on 4 September 2025 it became Ford Racing again, although Ford’s Oman pages still describe the Bronco Raptor as engineered by Ford Performance.

What does Raptor mean on a Ford?

Raptor marks Ford’s off-road performance versions. It began with the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor, built by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, and spread to the Ranger Raptor in 2018 and the Bronco Raptor. In Oman the Ranger Raptor has a 405-hp 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6, the Bronco Raptor a 418-hp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, and the F-150 Raptor R a 720-hp supercharged 5.2-litre V8. All three use FOX dampers, and they make up the whole performance menu on Ford’s Oman website.

How do the F-Series names work?

The F-Series began in 1948 with sizes from the F-1 to the F-8. In 1953 the half-ton F-100 and the heavier F-250 and F-350 took over, and in 1984 the F-150 replaced the F-100; Ford’s Oman range also lists the Super Duty. In Oman the F-150 comes as XL, XLT, Tremor, Lariat, Platinum, Raptor and Raptor R, with a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-litre V8, a 3.5-litre PowerBoost full hybrid, a 3.5-litre High-Output EcoBoost or a 5.2-litre supercharged V8. Ford says the F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States since 1982.

How do Ford’s SUVs differ?

By size and purpose. The Territory is a five-seat SUV with front-wheel drive and a 1.8-litre EcoBoost or a 1.5-litre hybrid. The Bronco, revived in 2020, is the off-roader, sold in Oman as Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands and Raptor. The Explorer seats seven, with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost and two- or four-wheel drive, and the Everest seats seven as a 4x4 with petrol and diesel engines. The Expedition is the largest, seating up to eight with a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6.

What do Tremor, Wildtrak, Titanium and Platinum mean?

They are rungs on each model’s ladder of versions, and the ladders differ. The Territory runs Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Platinum; the Ranger XL, XLT, Wildtrak and Raptor; the Everest Active, Sport, Tremor and Platinum; and the F-150 from XL to Raptor R. Tremor marks the off-road-focused version: the first-ever Expedition Tremor, which Ford calls the most off-road capable Expedition yet, has a 440-hp High-Output V6. Otto found no official explanation of names such as Ambiente, Trend or Wildtrak, so this article does not guess at them.

Is today’s Taurus the same car as the American Taurus?

Only the name is shared. The Taurus of 1985 was an American family saloon whose rounded shape broke with the boxy designs of its time. The Taurus sold in Oman for 2026 is a saloon with a 2.0-litre EcoBoost or a 1.5-litre full hybrid, an eight-speed automatic and Ambiente, Trend and Titanium versions, and Ford says the Taurus Hybrid is its first hybrid saloon in the Middle East. Otto explains how a full hybrid works in hybrid vs plug-in hybrid vs electric.

Which Ford models and brands have been discontinued?

The Model T ended in 1927 and the Edsel brand lasted only three model years from 1957. Mercury, Ford’s brand between Ford and Lincoln, was closed in 2011. The original Bronco ended in 1996, replaced by the Expedition, and the smaller Bronco II gave way to the Explorer after 1990. In Europe the Fiesta ended in 2023 after seven generations, and Focus production was due to end in 2025. Lincoln, bought in 1922, continues as Ford’s luxury brand.

Are Ford models different in Oman and the Gulf?

Some are, according to Ford’s own websites. On 25 October 2026 the Oman site offered the Mustang only with the 5.0-litre V8, while the US range also has a 2.3-litre EcoBoost; the Everest’s 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 is described as Middle East-exclusive; and the Taurus Hybrid is Ford’s first hybrid saloon in the region. Ford’s Middle East pages also say that models and features vary by market. Ford’s Oman website names Arabian Car Marketing as its distributor, with branches in Muscat, Seeb, Barka, Sohar, Nizwa, Sur, Salalah and Buraimi, so check the exact specification, equipment and availability of a car with the authorised distributor. Common Questions

  • Is Lincoln part of Ford? Yes. Ford bought the Lincoln Motor Company in 1922, and Lincoln is still Ford’s luxury brand; Ford Middle East’s websites carry Lincoln alongside Ford.
  • Does Ford still make the Fiesta? No. The last Fiesta was built at Cologne in 2023, after seven generations since 1976 and more than 22 million sales.
  • Is the Mustang Mach-E sold in Oman? Ford’s Oman website listed it as its electric model on 25 October 2026. The Mach-E, revealed in 2019, is an all-electric SUV rather than a version of the Mustang sports car.
