Why Is My Engine Shaking or Misfiring?

A misfire happens when one or more cylinders fail to combust fuel properly, causing the engine to shake, hesitate, or lose smoothness — most noticeable at idle or under load. The engine compensates unevenly, which is felt as shaking, a rough idle, or a stumble under acceleration.
